He was an engineer, a journalist and a historian. His aviation achievements go beyond documenting aviation. In 1959 he flew a replica of a Glenn Curtiiss pusher from Albany, NY to NYC in reenactment of Glenn Curtiss Hudson River flight of 1910. He designed the famous Fly Baby homebuilt airplane, among others, and consulted on the building of replicas of historic aircraft.
