I could not put it down, and in a few hours, I had finished the entire book. It was that engrossing. I was able to envision each character, place, and everything that was transpiring. Mr. Freeman certainly has a knack for storytelling and keeping the reader involved. I was moved to tears a few times, literally, and that doesn't happen often to me. I look forward to reading more works from Mr. Freeman. “Thief River Falls” starts off strong. Author Lisa Power finds a missing little boy she calls “Purdue,” who suffers from memory loss in the wake of a tragedy that appears to mimic the plot of her best-selling novel. It’s a great premise, and I was initially hooked. As the story goes on, however, it lost steam. It became a lot of “who can we trust” and “how do we get out of here,” with peripheral characters like Lisa’s best friend, Dr. Laurel March, who “Purdue” says he doesn’t like, because she looked at him “like she knew him.” Later, there will be a story involving “Purdue’s” mother, which is a bit of misdirection. I have an issue with stories that pull tricks. If I read one story and at 90% through am told not to trust anything I’ve read to that point, I’m upset. I invested time in reading a lie, and it’s frustrating. I don’t want to ruin anything for other readers, so I’ll just say this wasn’t for me. I debated whether or not this was a four-star read until around 80%. After that, I’m having a hard time giving it a three. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
"Lisa Power is a tortured ghost of her former self. The author of a bestselling thriller called Thief River Falls, named after her rural Minnesota hometown, Lisa is secluded in her remote house as she struggles with the loss of her entire family: a series of tragedies she calls the "Dark Star." Then a nameless runaway boy shows up at her door with a terrifying story - he's just escaped death after witnessing a brutal murder - a crime the police want to cover up. Obsessed with the boy's safety, Lisa resolves to expose this crime, but powerful men in Thief River Falls are desperate to get the boy back, and now they want her too. Lisa and her young visitor have nowhere to go as the trap closes around them. Still under the strange, unforgiving threat of the Dark Star, Lisa must find a way to save them both, or they'll become the victims of another shocking tragedy she can't foresee."--Publisher description. Lisa Power is an acclaimed author who wrote a bestseller about her hometown, Thief River Falls. A young boy appears in her yard, after the police have come to her house. The young boy doesn't remember his name or how he got there. Lisa calls him Perdue, the same name as the boy in her book. As the story progresses, Lisa tries to keep Perdue safe from the men who were chasing him. She can't trust anyone, even those she thought were her friends.
The hints are all there, but I was so engrossed in the story that I missed them, although I was puzzled by some of the things mentioned. If I thought about it, I could have understood that the ending would be a shocker. ( )
