Here, T’Challa has been King and Black Panther for a while. Shuri is much younger, but still a scientific genius. A genius who chafes from the restrictions placed on her as a Princess and from being treated as a child by the Queen Mother and T’Challa. She is instantly relatable to tweens, and also a good role model with her curiosity, love for family and love of science. As an adult I found the first half slow as Shuri struggles to be taken seriously by the adults, and the ending was rushed. I didn’t deduct any stars because this is still is a fun adventure story. Shuri investigates why the heart-shaped herb is suddenly dying, uncovers a plot against Wakanda and forms a bond with her Dora Milaje-in-training K’Marah. Along the way, she visits with a certain famous mutant “goddess” from Kenya and created a new Panther suit for her brother.
