Samiah Brooks might just be my hero. Smart, sexy, super career focused and just all around an amazing woman who finds out her current boyfriend is cheating on her and gets her revenge in the most epic of ways. She meets two other women in the process and together they decide to focus on themselves instead of men for the next 6 months. Of course, in the meantime, super tempting, sexy man Daniel starts working at Samiah's company and sparks happen.

What I liked so much about this book, besides the banter, was that Samiah made no apologies for being who she is. She knew what she wanted and worked really hard to get where she was in life. Daniel respected that and was instrumental in supporting her to achieve her goals.

The only thing keeping me from giving this five stars is the deception. I won't go in to details but I have a hard time with deception in stories and I just kept yelling SAY SOMETHING. I fully get why the author chose to keep up the ruse but it made me a bit uncomfortable so I couldn't give the story five stars.

This book was so close to perfect and the best thing for a reading slump. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy. ( )

Listened to half an hour of the audiobook and I didn't take it. So it might have been good - I got it from a favorite romance novels list. ( )

Great diversity was showcased in “The Boyfriend Project” and a decent assembled group of characters, so kudos to the author! Minus that, everything else was meh. It was a pretty mediocre read and there wasn’t anything besides what was listed above that stood out. I just wish there was that something something to win me over but there is potential for sure so I look forward to seeing what else this author releases in the future.

A contemporary, light romcom set in the tech world of Austin, Texas. I enjoyed the strong female friendships and the office romance. There was enough of a mystery to move the plot along and provide tension between the main characters. It seems to be the first in a series and I'll definitely check out the next one. ( )

between 3 and 3.5 stars. i really, really liked the focus on female friendship in this book, and in how this was much more about being true to themselves and each other (and what female friendship can mean) than most romances are. the non-romance part of the story also seemed more substantive than i'm used to, and i appreciate that. they even got together earlier in the book than i expected - and with no major communication issue popping up later!! - so other aspects of the story could be focused on. i don't know, this wasn't perfect or anything, but the voices were good, the friendship was nice, there wasn't a lot of extraneous bs. there was subtle but strong reference to how hard black women working in stem have it, and so it was really nice to see these women be strong and powerful and successful (even taylor, who struggled, but who had her own business and was doing better than she thought she was) and so smart. this was kind of refreshing and maybe should even get a higher rating from me.
