Cold Queen
3.5 Stars

Elizra Whitestone, the queen of the North is struggling to remain alive to protect the only person she cares for, her younger sister Yanna. When Ryke Bloodson, the powerful king of the Volc, arrives seeking an alliance, Elizra is willing to consider it until he demands her sister's hand in marriage. Now all bets are off as Elizra and Ryke enter into the ultimate battle of wills . . .

A surprisingly good yet rather dark and violent retelling of Frozen with numerous allusions to Game of Thrones thrown in for good measure.

Anyone expecting a masterpiece of fantasy world-building and storytelling is bound to be disappointed as much of the book focuses on Elizra and Ryke's love/hate relationship and explicit sexcapades.

Nevertheless, the fairytale style is appealing, and it is entertaining to follow along as the mystery revolving around Elizra's strange illness is resolved (albeit in a very predictable way).

Overall, I might never have read this if it weren't for a challenge (author with a single letter name), but if Webster decided to continue with this style, I would probably read more. ( )

That's 4.5 stars.

I absolutely loved the book. The drama. The love. The unexpected turns. It was amazing pretty-easy read, which amused me. The story was so twisted at places, but still so real. The betrayal was so valid with our world. The plot remembered me of "Frozen", but the story was so much more.

The Heroine - innocent and sick girl at the beginning, transformed into one strong and powerful queen. She grew up. She was taught by life about betrayal, love, vengeance. And at the end of the book, she was an independent woman, which I loved. From a small girl with trauma, she turned into one ruthless Cold Queen.

The Hero - Oh, God, I'm so in love with this boy. Caught my breath from the beginning to the end. Cruel dark king, with power as strong as Heroine's they were perfect together. He was so sexy - the way he talked, the way he fucked, the way he ruled. Merciless.

The end -I'm just gonna say I was hoping for HEA, and I received it in a brilliant way...

And here comes the question, why only 4,5 stars? The answer is very simple. I absolutely loved the writing, but at times it was too terrifying about some people's actions. This cruelty from the men in the castle. That scene was horrifying. How they used women only for pleasure and food. And what was really disgusting was that they eat their own children.

Heroine - 5.5/6
Hero - 6/6
Plot Twist - 5/6
Ending - 5.5/6
Storyline - 5/6

The fairy tale of the Snow Queen is already kinda dark, and then K Webster gets a hold on it, and boom, you get something really dark, intense, and freaking sexy.

Elzira, the queen of ice, is dying. Each day she's getting worse and worse. Her sister is trying to heal her, but it isn't working. Then comes Ryke, the king of fire, chasing a war. He wants to marry Elzira's sister, but things don't work out that way.

Wow. I mean, just wow. Elzira is fierce and cruel, when necessary. She's protective and loyal to those she considers hers, which is basically her sister. Even as she's dying, she does everything she can to protect her sister from Ryke. She's stubborn AF, and got a lot of strength, even as she's dying. I mean, I'm seriously impressed by her. She's diamonds all the way down.

Ryke is determined. He knows what he wants, he's going to get what he wants, no matter what he has to do. If that means keeping Elzira prisoner until he can marry her sister, then that's what he'll do. If that means taking over Elzira's castle, then so be it. He's also going to find out the truth of everything he can.

This book left me gasping and waiting to see what was going to happen next. I would really love to see more of these two characters. ( )

I'm going to let everyone know a little secret. I have never watched Frozen. I am sure there are a whole tribe of people that are gasping or thinking that this is blasphemous but it is what it is. And now, after reading this I am not sure that I ever will because I am pretty positive that this author has ruined the movie for me by making it better.

First, let me start off by saying that this cover is stunning and one of my favorites of this whole collection. Second, the worldbuilding and the depth of details in setting the scene and characters are truly sublime. I could feel the cold as well as I could feel the fire. The depictions of the characters were some of the best that I have encountered in PNR books. Every weapon that Elzira used or conjured up were insande and made me like this author that much more. I felt something for her character and could understand completely why she was the way that she was. She needed the warmth of Ryke. He was not only a formidable foe but a great balance to her in a world where she had no one. Their chemistry was hotter than hot. Like seriously boiling water hot.

I was a little lost towards the end of the book with the battle they were fighting with some truly repugnant baddies. My stomach is still sick thinking about what those guys ate. Still, it added a dimension to the story and hopefully paved the way for future stories. I would love to see that happen especially there was hinting about what certain abilities some of them had.

I cannot recommend this collection of sinister stories more. The first two have been amazing and I can only imagine what is left in store for captive readers. ( )

This is a fantasy romance novel and a very enjoyable one at that.
The first thing that struck me here was Elziras resemblance to the Snow Queen with her cold icy castle and outward appearance.
But this is no over-romanticized fairytale it had a much edgier and darker overtone whilst at the same time was still a really sweet love story despite the bloodshed involved.
So Elzira is the reigning queen of the Norta Icelands, Queen Whitestone after the untimely death of her father, she is also the punisher of the damned.
So Ryka the Truthseeker and King Bloodsun of the Souta Volcanos is the exact opposite of the Icequeen.
Hot where she is cold, Fire where she is Ice he wants her cooperation to proceed through her lands to what lies beyond and is prepared to do whatever is needed to accomplish his goals.
I really enjoyed this story the unapologetic viciousness was refreshing and though this wasn't a complicated story it was very absorbing.
A quick read that really captured my imagination.
I would really adore it if the author continued with this series and would certainly like to read more set in this world.
If you like fantasy romance then this hits the spot massively.
A thumbs up from my camp.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Cold Queen.
