"The YA thriller of the summer." --Bustle For fans of Sadie and Serial, this gripping thriller follows two teens whose lives become inextricably linked when one confesses to murder and the other becomes determined to uncover the real truth no matter the cost. What happened to Zoe won't stay buried... When Anna Cicconi arrives to the small Hamptons village of Herron Mills for a summer nanny gig, she has high hopes for a fresh start. What she finds instead is a community on edge after the disappearance of Zoe Spanos, a local girl who has been missing since New Year's Eve. Anna bears an eerie resemblance to Zoe, and her mere presence in town stirs up still-raw feelings about the unsolved case. As Anna delves deeper into the mystery, stepping further and further into Zoe's life, she becomes increasingly convinced that she and Zoe are connected--and that she knows what happened to her. Two months later, Zoe's body is found in a nearby lake, and Anna is charged with manslaughter. But Anna's confession is riddled with holes, and Martina Green, teen host of the Missing Zoe podcast, isn't satisfied. Did Anna really kill Zoe? And if not, can Martina's podcast uncover the truth? Inspired by Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, Kit Frick weaves a thrilling story of psychological suspense that twists and turns until the final page.… (més)

Pretty good mystery but I don't have any strong feelings about it. ( )

Was this really the YA Rebecca? No, not really. But was it really good? Yes. Plenty of tension and suspense, tightly written, with damaged characters who wanted to redeem themselves, this book had all the mystery! There were so many different directions it could have gone that it really was unpredictable. I really enjoyed it! ( )

I imagine it was meant to be suspenseful and tense. I found it overdrawn, repetitive, and disjointed. ( )

Who killed Zoe Spanos? Angsty boyfriend Caden? Anna, who confessed but her story may not quite add up? Or did Zoe run away? After her disappearance on New Year’s Eve, Zoe leaves a shocked village in the Hamptons behind. Podcaster Marissa Green knows one thing: she still hasn’t discovered the truth yet, but she’s going to keep digging until she does.

Anna doesn’t know it, but she gets her great summer nannying job in the Hamptons because of her uncanny resemblance to Zoe. The child she’s nannying, Paisley, adored Zoe, so makes sure Anna gets hired. Anna just knows she’s determined to leave her hard-partying friends behind and turn over a new leaf.

But when Anna arrives in the Hamptons, places and people start to seem familiar, even though she’s never been there before. And her past history of getting blackout drunk makes her question whether it’s an overactive imagination or memories resurfacing. Somehow, her and Zoe’s lives are more intertwined than she ever dreamed.

This story had great twists and turns, and I kept changing my mind about what I thought happened. I never saw the ending coming!

This is a thriller you won’t want to put down! Plus, the first edition has blue-sprayed edges, which I adore!

Thank you to publicist Megan Beatie and McElderry Books for this gifted copy. ( )

If you like creepy as in a Twin Peaks way, this is for you. Alternating between then and now, with podcasts by Zoe's younger sister's best friend that are her effort to solve the mystery of how and who killed Zoe, readers are presented with bits and pieces of seemingly random facts that come together nicely by the end, but not without some last minute surprises.
