I couldn't stop reading. The book goes back and forth with connection between Jackie Kennedy and opera star, Maria Callas. After JFK dies, the question is: who gets the prize: Aristole Onassis? Is it love, money or perhaps just winning. I wonder how their lives would change now with the internet when gossip flies at a high speed. It also gives the reader a glimpse of the life of Jackie's sister, Lee Radziwill, who seemed to be on edge all the time. While they all have passed, I hope they're now enjoying the afterlife together. What a party that would be. At the end, the author reinforces that the book is fiction. I appreciated the last few pages that gives you a list of other books to read and notes: "What Happened Next." ( )

Jackie and Maria is a "story of love, passion, and tragedy as the lives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas are intertwined—and they become the ultimate rivals, in love with the same man."
This was a fascinating book about the lives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas and written using the same timeline for both women. I found that very interesting and kept me wanting to read on and on to find out what was happening in each of their lives at that point.
I knew a great deal about the life of Jackie but very little of Maria and found her to be a very complex woman whose love of Aristotle Onassis dominated every decision she made.
I think anyone that enjoys a well written novel with detailed research and fascinating subjects will enjoy this book. ( )

Maria Callas, a famous Greek opera singer, leaves her husband after meeting and falling for Aristotle Onassis. The world's richest man, Aristotle lives a life of glamour and fun aboard his yacht. In America, Jackie Kennedy makes the decision to stand by her cheating husband, as he gains political notoriety, and eventually the White House. After the death of her husband, Jackie falls into a deep depression. While still maintaining his relationship with Maria, Aristotle sweeps into her life, offering her security and money.

This was an absolutely fascinating book. The story was well paced and the characters were well developed and multi dimensional. My heart broke for Maria, as she tried to hold onto her love, career, and herself. Jackie, was tougher to like, but I understood her point of view and why she was seeking security through Aristotle's wealth. I look forward to reading more from this author. ( )

Actually, I feel rather dirtied after reading this book. The author made up so many private scenes out of her own imagination. I cannot find that this is at all respectful towards the two main characters. It's one thing to do this when the people involved have been dead for a few centuries, but many of us whose lives they touched are still alive. ( )

I read a historical fiction novel about Jackie Kennedy earlier this year and while this novel tells the same key story, it is centered more about Onassis and his interactions with two very different women. The book is told from the alternating perspectives of Jackie Kennedy and Maria Callas. Jackie's fame proceeds her, so I was fascinated to learn more about Maria Callas, the opera singer who was Onassis' mistress before and during his marriage to Jackie. I can't call this fun reading, because the story is full of so much tragedy - assassinations, miscarriages, alcoholism, and drug overdoses. My biggest takeaway was insight into how manipulative and terrible Aristotle Onassis was to the women in his life. Overall, this was a good novel and given that it highlights the story of two iconic women from an earlier era, I enjoyed every page. ( )
