While this book is currently out of print, it's a "must read" for anyone looking for a serious, biblical, examination of the the creation account. Perhaps more than any other passage in the Bible the creation account has been read in light of culture. This cultural interpretation has then been passed on and become a litmus test for orthadoxy. Sailhamer attemts to step back from culture and find truth. One example of this is how we tend to focus on what God created and when - and this is important. Sailhamer would say, however, that a larger point in these verses is God speaking and the implications of this. Buy a used copy. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
DO I REALLY HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN RELIGION AND SCIENCE? In this ground-breaking work, Old Testament scholar John Sailhamer shines new light on the opening chapters of the Bible, revealing how centuries-old misunderstandings have continued to shape popular biblical interpretation -- as well as greatly contributing to unnecessary conflicts between the Bible and science. Pointing to answers found in the first two chapters of Genesis, Sailhamer presents a credible, scripturally supported, and much-needed explanation that opens the door to reconciliation of biblical and scientific world views. No matter what your position or background, you will be challenged to test your understanding of the Bible's critical opening sentences and reexamine your beliefs about the creation of the world through Genesis Unbound. Perhaps the best commentary on the first two chapters of the book of Genesis -- the formation of the heavens and earth by the voice of God. Amazing insights into the meaning of the original language. ( )
