"La llamada de la luna" es el inicio de la historia de Mercedes Thompson, un atractiva mujer que cambia de forma y se convierte en coyote, que tiene como vecino a un hombre lobo dominante y que por las tardes trabaja como mecánico en el taller del vampiro Stefan. El mundo de Mercy es muy similar al nuestro, salvo que el Otro Mundo comienza a salir a la luz debido a las tecnologías modernas. This is very well written and very much a page turner. The characters are interesting and it has community. And... it is to violent for me. Even with the violence I read the whole thing, so if you can tolerate violence this might be a good series for you. I love this series enough that the latest book inspired me to go through and read it again from the beginning. My re-read of Moon Called was on audio book, and when I added it to my "currently reading" shelf, I was surprised at the 3 star rating I had given it when I first read it. I think this second time around I might go 3.5, but my reaction didn't change much from the first time. It was a fun book, a promising start to a series, but it wasn't perfect. A little too much stopping and explaining was the main thing that had me rating this a little lower than I've rated the others. But I liked the characters a lot, especially Mercy, and the story was good, with lots of action and a bit of romance. I liked it enough to try another, and the second book, Blood Bound, got me hooked on the series. After that, I couldn't get them from the library fast enough. 2019 Update (upon a third reading): I don’t know if it’s familiarity with the characters and story, but I must bump the rating up from my original 3 stars. I would have bumped it up to a generous 5-star rating, but I’m not satisfied with the motivations of the main baddie. It fell apart a bit for me when his plan was revealed. But since I loved everything else, up the rating goes to 4 stars. One down, a million to go, in my Mercyverse re-read. This is the first book In Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series. I’ve been trying to get around to this series for years, and finally did. “Moon Called” is the story of Mercy Thompson, a Half-Indigenous coyote shifter, and an attack on the werewolf pack that lives near her and of which she is sort of an honorary member. When the Alpha and his daughter are kidnapped, Mercy and the others jump on the trail to rescue them, and discover who would attack the pack in the first place (and why). This is a solid first entry in a series, doing a good job of introducing the characters and the mythology while still leaving plenty of room to explore in the new world. I’m a big fan of Urban Fantasy and werewolves/shapeshifters, so I really gobbled this book up. It’s great to have discovered a new series with lots of books left to read! Mercy Thompson's life is not exactly normal. Her next-door neighbor is a werewolf. Her former boss is a gremlin. And she's fixing a VW bus for a vampire. But then, Mercy isn't exactly normal herself. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

Mercy has long since outgrown her adopted family of werewolves and lives independently in central US as a mechanic. Her somewhat unique heritage is as a Native American shapeshifter, into a Coyote - fast and clever but lacking in brute power. A very different creature to the werewolves, but close enough to understand them. A newly turned werewolf arrives in her garage looking for work. He seems a nice enough lad, and Mercy hires him. However the next time they meet he's being chased by some out-of-towners a rare combination of werewolf with human accomplices. She manages to scare them off, but the following night his body is dumped on her doorstep and she realises there's bigger problems in town. Heading the boss of the local werewold pack, she discovers turmoil and a fight breaking out with intruders. Obviously something very concerning is happening with the werewolves, and for her own sake she needs to aid them.
An unusual mix of revealed fae, and concealed ones like the werewvolves leads to some world-nuilding that doesn't quite make sense yet, there's little discussion of what are the revealed 'lesser' fae and we don't meet any, only the stronger goblins etc. The few humans who have been introduced don't seem to take the surprise as heavily as they should, although there is an exception that may become interesting in later books. The romance is dialed down which is a bonus, but sadly already foreshadowed for later books.
Not a bad start to a series didn't fully hold my attention but I have the next couple to read through. (
