Magnificent Homespun Brown - this Coretta Scott King award winner for most distinguished illustrator was a beautiful book. It went through all of the beautiful shades of brown in our world that we see day to day. The illustrations were beautiful and portrayed the characters extremely beautifully.

This book is good for an intermediate age group, or to be used to study poetry for an older age group, or read aloud for a younger age group. It describes the shades of brown that make up all the wonderful things in the narrator's life and connect to her family and identity. It's absolutely gorgeous and I would most definitely have it in my classroom, regardless of age, as a brilliant example of poetry and finding all the things to love about your background, and would likely use it to demonstrate free verse poetry and different kinds of figurative language, alliteration, and more.

I really enjoyed this book! From the lovely, warm illustrations to the poetry of the words. Look & be taken in by the whimsy & comfort of each image & each word!
