My oldest son's kindergarten teacher would have the students memorize each month. ( ) I love this classic book of silly verse about the months of the year. It would be a great place to start encouraging kids to memorize poetry. The "Nutshell Library" edition is something to be aware of as well -- four tiny books by Sendak, comprising this one on months, plus an alphabet book, a numbers book, and a manners book. All silly and charming. A boy so enchanted with his chicken soup that he rhymes about it all year long, a silly stanza for each month. He concludes his paean with: “I told you once I told you twice all seasons of the year are nice for eating chicken soup with rice!” This volume is a part of the author and illustrator’s Nutshell Library, a boxed set of four tiny toddler-fist-sized picture books. Chicken Soup with Rice has always been one of my favorite concept books growing up. As someone who lived off of chicken soup with rice every season of the year, especially when I first moved to Pennsylvania, I loved to read this with my mom and share a giggle about how much we related to his character. Each month, the narrator talks about how perfectly chicken soup with rice goes with the festivities of the month. In January, he is sipping chicken soup with rice while sliding on the ice. In February he enjoys some chicken soup with rice with a snowman pal. Each month, along with the changing weather, the narrator talks about how perfect chicken soup with rice is for any occasion. Along with being a silly rhyming book, this can be considered a concept book because of its evaluation of the timeline of each month and the weather that changes along with it. Scholastic Book Wizard has identified this book as a Pre K-3 level. This would be especially relevant to use in a climate such as ours in Pennsylvania so that students can understand that when it is October, it will be chilly and blustery along with the spookiness of Halloween. This book is, again, a solid 5/5. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
