This little vignette on the passing mankind is very reminiscent of Ambrose Bierce's "An Inhabitant of Carcosa." Shelley's [b:Ozymandias|2355014|Ozymandias|Percy Bysshe Shelley|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1356208377s/2355014.jpg|2361739] is essentially the same sentiment but better, albeit restricted to one king instead of the whole of us.
