Lochlan MacAllister was born to lead. Ruthlessly groomed to take control of his clan, he has given his life to his people. But when he learns that the brother he thought was dead might still be alive, he embarks on a quest to find the truth. Catarina wants a life of freedom. But now Catarina's royal father wants to use her as a pawn to ensure a treaty between conflicting lands. So much so that he's willing to kidnap his daughter to force the issue. But when she escapes, fate throws her into the path of a man she loathes. Lochlan is stunned to find the shrewish Cat being hauled away by unknown men. Unwilling to see even her suffer, he frees her only to learn that she has her own demons to fight. When their fates intertwine, two people who know nothing of trust must rely on each other, and two enemies who have vowed their eternal hatred must find common ground, or see their very lives shattered.… (més)

For a long time I thought this would be a four-star story. However, about half-way through the story structure became a little too apparent for me to enjoy thoroughly: boy meets girl, hate each other, get into trouble, one rescues the other, like each other, get into trouble, one rescues the other, become attracted to each other, get into trouble, one rescues the other, fall in love with each other but don't admit it, get into trouble, one rescues the other, admit their love, get into trouble, one rescues the other, marry. the end.

I wasn't expecting the semi-explicit sexual scenes into a book like The Warrior, but then again, the author is of course known for erotic literature as well.

The setting in medieval Europe (Scotland, England and France) is nice and the written dialects make it appealing to read. It was a long time ago I read a book written from the third-know-it-all-person and I'm happy I encountered it again as it allows for interesting perspectives as a reader.

Not sure if I'll read other `Brotherhood of the Sword' or `MacAllister' books. Perhaps if someone can recommend them? ( )

I remember liking this book and vaguely remember the premise. I went to Sherrelyn Kenyon's book signing and had a copy autographed, so must have liked it that much since I had plenty of Dark Hunter series I could have had signed. Unlike her Dark Hunters, this was a historical romance with a little ghost action, if memory serves. ( )

This is my first book by this author. I had heard of MacGregor before, so when I saw this at Borders for $3.99 I snapped it up….figured I couldn’t beat that plus I had a coupon so it came out even cheaper. Unfortunately, at the time of purchase I didn’t know that this was #7 in the series. By then it was too late and I figured I tried to read it as a standalone. I was lost for the beginning of the book, because of course characters from previous books made an appearance and there were references that I completely missed. Other than this though once I got into the story it was enjoyable enough. The story itself was predictable in the sense of boy hates girl and ends up falling in love with girl along the way. But then the epilogue just made it plain weird and hence the 2 star rating. I found out later that MacGregor also writes under the pseudonym of Sherrilyn Kenyon. Under Kenyon the author writes paranormal novels. Apparently, MacGregor/Kenyon forgot what hat she was wearing the day she wrote this epilogue and combined paranormal and historical romance fiction causing a “wtf? was that” ending for readers. It was not so bad and would have earned itself a 3 star ending had the genres not been mixed. So please take the advice of other reviewers, including myself in saying skip the epilogue. You will have a much happier read this way. ( )

Lochlan captures the essence of what a man should be. Loyal, responsible and fierce. Catatrina is carefree and passionate. An unforgettable story of finding love when one least expects it and discovering what one will do for it. ( )

Yes you'd probably need to read this series in order but they're still entertaining out of sequence.

Lochlan MacAllister was brutally trained to be his clan's leader. He hears that his brother might be alive and goes hunting for him. Along the way he comes across Cararina, a royal princess who is trying to find some freedom. When the two of them band together they find themselves changing their assumptions about each other.

It's a fun read, the characters are great fun and the building romance is interesting and gripping. A series I really have to read more of. ( )
