How has no one come to gush about 'The Best Friend' yet?
Becka Norwood is living her best life with her two BFFs when a speeding bullet train from her past named Honey Perkins reenters her life and is just so, so excited to be friends again. The only problem is that Becka has no fucking clue who this girl is and why her mother let her in the house.
Becka's mother continues to be helpful like that as the novel gets stranger. Honey claims to have moved away in grade school and is thrilled to be back in Shadyside so they can pick up where they left off. There are a few clues dropped that their past "friendship" wasn't so great and after Honey is convinced to gtfo of Becka's room after a non-stop nostalgic throw-up of the good old days - and pointedly ignoring Becka's actual best friends who kept trying to get in on the conversation - Becka pulls out an old class photo and finds Honey. Why can't she remember her?
This question doesn't get answered, mostly because Honey sets about an impressive campaign of getting close to Becka by any means necessary. Of course, I won't spoil things, but there is gaslighting, parental backstabbing, boyfriend thievery and bicycle accidents. The direct sequel to this one is hard to find, but I'm gonna get my hands on it, don't worry.
