Pap, Polly's father began a tradition of visiting their old land to gather mushrooms. Those mushrooms represented the treasure Polly always wanted. ( ) A story about a little girl living in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in the 1920's right after the government a section of land for a national park. She lives in a hallow where her mother makes jam and her father makes baskets that they sell at the store over the mountain and they find magic in the call of the whippoorwill. Then everything changes when their land is sold and they move down the mountain where everything is different. One day they return to the mountain and find that sometimes change brings good change but some things - like that of the call of the whippoorwill - stay the same.
