This is part of the Smartypants romance series which is connected to the Winston brothers series by Penny Reid. This series is based on the ex girlfriends of Jethro Winston. Good story. Well written. Grumpy Hero. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine. Small other man drama and small history revealed between Jethro and the heroine. HEA. While there's a lot of good Green Valley books, the last few I read didn't do much for me so I was a little dubious about a modern retelling of the Phantom of the Opera. Ms. Sheldon did a wonderful job though with a pretty faithful storyline that works in today's world. Devlin is the mysterious masked conductor of the local symphony orchestra and Kim/Christine is the fourth cellist despite her talent. When Devlin picks her to help him with his new work, Kim is uncertain, wanting to keep a low profile. It's a funny, sweet, and well-told story that I enjoyed a lot. As far as Green Valley is concerned, Kim Dae disappeared into the Wraiths a decade ago. They were sort of right. Kim has spent her life since Jethro fighting her curious nature and trying to blend into the background. Unfortunately for her, a mysterious Maestro comes to town and takes quick notice of her for reasons unknown to anybody. The masked conductor, known simply as Devlin, was already a source of much gossip thanks to his reputation for getting fired. Now, his sudden interest in the quiet fourth chair cellist has added fuel to the rumor fire. The new conductor of the symphony needs to learn to control his temper and finish his latest musical masterpiece and only the reluctant star of his symphony can help him do that. If Devlin can't convince Kim to help to finish his latest composition he'll lose everything. Can Devlin and Kim compose without losing composure? The Treble With Men is book #2 in the Scorned Women Society series. It is a full-length romantic comedy novel, and can be read as a standalone. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

Christine/Kim is a cellist who was on course to go to Julliard as a teen until pressure and a few bad choices changed the course of her life. She’s also in the Scorned Women Society—Jethro Winston’s former girlfriends. Erik/Devlin/The Devil of the Symphony (our Phantom) is hiding his true identity as an ex pop star behind a mask he wears to rehearsal. He’s not exactly winning most popular conductor of the year and has a few nasty orchestra members to contend with. Piper Sheldon gets the details right in this one, all the little stuff from how an orchestra really applauds to the fact that skilled musicians can play on their own without a conductor. It’s a great read, made even more so with a racy cello lesson and a midnight thunderstorm thrown in. Loved these two and can’t wait to see the next member of the Scorned Women Society.
