I’m very excited to see more and more representation in manga lately.
Though I don’t usually go for romance focused storylines, I was excited to see a Deaf Japanese character in manga and immediately wanted to read the novel. It’s cute and adorable.
I wasn’t 100% on Itsuimi at first, since I couldn’t get a good read on him, same as Yuki, really. Oushi’s heart is in the right place, but he kind of goes about showing it to Yuki incorrectly. I am so proud of how much Yuki has grown in this novel though, even from the very beginning she’s grown more independent.
The art was pretty and expressive - especially showing the JSL (Japanese Sign Language), which, being a visual language, is actually kind of hard to put down on paper… As someone who is semi fluent in ASL (American Sign Language), I was curious to see the difference between the two and how the artist would put it on paper.
This volume collection is definitely a set up to (hopefully) more. This volume was a bit slow, so I’m hoping it picks up in the upcoming collections. (
