For defense attorney Mickey Haller, the stakes couldn’t be higher. The discovery of the body of a client in the trunk of his car put the lawyer in the unenviable position of defending himself against an obvious frame while incarcerated in the Twin Towers Correctional Institute in Los Angeles.

Who framed Mickey? And will he find a way to prove his innocence?

In this, the sixth in the Mickey Haller series, all the expected characters are in place; Harry Bosch even makes an [all too brief] appearance to help with his half-brother’s defense. Sharp, shrewd, and stouthearted, Mickey decides to defend himself and sets out to prove his innocence. Cue the courtroom machinations as the unfolding narrative details the efforts of Mickey and his team to put together their defense and the resulting strategy to “work” the system.

While definitely a page-turner, some readers may find the [minimal] political commentary off-putting; there’s a moment or two where the willing suspension of disbelief is a struggle [especially regarding the prosecutor’s inexplicable animosity]. More frustrating for the reader is the Deus ex machina feeling of the ending. Uncharacteristically, there are some plot points that remain unresolved at the end of the story . . . . ( )

Not worth the wait (7 years!)

Interesting case, if you read the blurb, Haller (the good guy) was definitely setup and charged with murder. So how will he get himself out of it? This was suppose to be exciting, unfortunately "The Law of Innocence" has a very disappointing court scene with a laughable verdict. Bosch made a small cameo.

Not quite 3 stars because of the ending. Would be 3 stars if some major character got covid - that would make it more interesting. ( )
