Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

This new series by Deb Davies will especially appeal to readers of mysteries and stories based in Michigan. Rich in Michigan's local flavor, beauty, and culture, Deb Davies brings that true "up north feeling" into her writing.

After the death of her husband, Claire is finding it hard to adjust to being a widow in northern Michigan. She and her cat quickly find themselves surrounded by visitors, including her best friend, Laurel.

The empty house soon feels more like home until a raven mysteriously appears inside, resulting in a disastrous mess, and a new friend for houseguest Charles, an eccentric ornithologist.

Although the company initially offers the support and distraction Claire needs, random attacks soon escalate and no one is safe.

When the unlikely group comes face-to-face with someone intent on murder, will their newfound friendship be strong enough to protect them?

This book is a mystery. It is one that you can read and guess what is going on. It will keep you guessing and trying to figure it all out. It is worth giving a try. ( )

I received this book as an early reviewer but have been unable to read much past the first chapter. The issue is not with the book, as I’ve not read enough to comment on the title, but more in my inability to get the book transferred successfully onto my Kindle and in a readable format. The PDF is far too small for my vision and my attempts to change the format using Calibri resulted in gibberish scattered throughout. Then when trying to read on my iPad, I encountered similar problems and multiple font changes.

Sadly, I’ve given up on reading it. There are many attempts on my devices and none seem to translate into a readable copy. So sorry.

This book was ok. I didn’t find the story all that interesting. It wasn’t bad, but I didn’t particularly like the people, and that always makes it difficult for me to stay interested in a book.

Claire is settling in after her husband dies but strange things start happening. She is living in his home town and trying to make sense of the life there. But Not everyone is happy about that.

If you are looking for a story that takes a lot of unexpected turns and doesn’t always go the way you are thinking it will, this could be for you. Just because I didn’t like these people doesn’t mean you won’t. ( )

Northern Light by Deb Davies was suspenseful. It held my interest and really made me go back and forth in my own mind as I was reading. Who could be committing the foul deeds that were trying to drive the main character away from the small town. Readers may appreciate that the characters in this story were not twenty a somethings. They were older adults and the younger characters realized that they had things to learn from them.
The author gave each character a few pages of back story so that the readers could see them develop as the story went on. The interactions between the characters was enjoyable.
This was a mystery book that did not feel(read) like a traditional mystery book with a crime to be solved. It was more like a puzzle that didn't come together until the last chapter or two. ( )

Decent plot and character development but it was difficult to get into the book in the beginning. Even though I live in Michigan and enjoyed seeing places in the book, I felt it was more like I was reading a travelog. The detail of the location descriptions was too much and it was difficult to focus on the development of the story. I found myself skipping sectiond trying to get to the 'meat' of the book. ( )
