A pretend relationship gives two friends more than they bargained for in a Renaissance Faire rom com filled with flower crowns, kilts, corsets, and sword fights. Single mother April Parker has lived in Willow Creek for twelve years with a wall around her heart. On the verge of being an empty nester, she's decided to move on from her quaint little town, and asks her friend Mitch for his help with some home improvement projects to get her house ready to sell.  Mitch Malone is known for being the life of every party, but mostly for the attire he wears to the local Renaissance Faire--a kilt (and not much else) that shows off his muscled form to perfection. While he agrees to help April, he needs a favor too: she'll pretend to be his girlfriend at an upcoming family dinner, so that he can avoid the lectures about settling down and having a more "serious" career than high school coach and gym teacher. April reluctantly agrees, but when dinner turns into a weekend trip, it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's been just for show. But when the weekend ends, so must their fake relationship.  As summer begins, Faire returns to Willow Creek, and April volunteers for the first time. When Mitch's family shows up unexpectedly, April pretends to be Mitch's girlfriend again...and it doesn't feel so fake anymore. Despite their obvious connection, April insists they've just been putting on an act. But when there's the chance for something real, she has to decide whether to change her plans--and open her heart--for the kilt-wearing hunk who might just be the love of her life.… (més)

So ... I read Well Met in this series last year. And I probably did like it enough to read another in the series. It had its charm, and I particularly enjoyed the parts that involved the Renaissance Fair. This novel centres on two supporting cast from that novel, April and Mitch. And the book cover is great.

April is a bit of a badass, which seems to come out of insecurities. Having just read Colleen Hoover's Maybe Now, where the heroine takes pride in herself the more badass she is, I'm a little over that.

Once again, the theme of Well Matched is driven by a woman who doesn't read her would-be lover's signals at all, and sees a caring, would-be passionate relationship as pretend. And, having just read Samantha Young's Before Jamaica Lane, that idea is pretty tired - it's is such a downer that women are so poor at reading signals! - I actually don't believe they are, but certainly it is a common condition among romance novel heroines! BTW, the Young book is a helluva book.

Brittany Pressley has the voice to convey the 'badass' side of April, but it's not that great to listen to.

Like Well Met, the scenes at the Fair are the best of the novel. It would be such fun to take part in such a fair!

And once again the novel is too drawn out for the content, at 9 1/2 hours. This is probably a three star, but Well Matched might have got my extra half star because I appreciate that it tackled an older woman dealing with falling for a younger man - I'm guessing 8 years? It's so silly when we wouldn't bat an eyelid if it were the reverse.

Mmmm, I need to find some more complex novels which include romance - I could even give up the de-stress of the HEA if I got a little more sophistication in the story telling. Any suggestions welcome! ( )

Very cute.

If I recommended this series to someone I would say to skip book two and read one and three. Book two had many things I didn't like about it and while the characters featured are mentioned in this book, you won't miss anything if you haven't read book two. ( )

Well Matched is the third book in the series and we are back to well-known characters from Well Met. April is Emily's sister and Caitlin's mother while Mitch is Simon's friendly rival in the Ren Faire games and the high school's gym teacher.
The story is told from April's POV. She's about to become an empty nester with Caitlin going off to college, so she plans to sell her house and start living a life different from her single mom-hood. Mitch offers to help her fix up the place in exchange for her accompanying him to a family reunion. April is ten years older than Mitch which she makes a huge deal out of, but he wants a smart woman who he can show off to his family.
The first half of the book seemed slow to me and I struggled to get through it, but it picks up later once Ren Faire actually starts. April is frustrating in that she's so insecure and set in her ways, but it was fun to see Mitch pull her out of herself. Mitch is just a sweetie, and I wish I could have seen more from his POV since I think that would have offset April's personality some. Anyway, I give this 3 1/2 stars. ( )

April Parker is about to be on her own, finally, after years of working hard to raise her daughter, Caitlin, all by herself. Once Caitlin goes away to college, April has plans to sell her house and move into the city closer to where she works, but her realtor has told her that her house needs some upgrades before it is ready to put on the market, so she strikes a deal with local playboy, Mitch Malone. If he helps her stain her deck, she will agree to be his fake girlfriend at his family's reunion in order to get them off his back about settling down, but remaining cool headed is difficult with hunky Mitch, especially when, at the annual Renaissance Faire, he starts wearing those sexy kilts.

Well Matched is the third entry in the Well Met series, taking on the story of an older woman dating a much younger man. April's character is well developed as we see her struggling with the life at 40. Much of that struggle could be described as women's fiction, especially since Mitch's character is not as well delineated, but the romance plays an important emotional role as the story builds to its climax. Overall, Well Matched is a fun story with some poignant moments and a very satisfying conclusion. ( )
