The beginning of 'yet another superheroes must rally to save the universe' story. But it does a good job of turning a few conventions on their head, while holding onto most of them. I love the Earth-girl, Cammi: "She says out loud stuff most people just think." -- Nova ( ) I really like this story. Generally, with cosmic SF stories, I prefer it when they really give the universe a sense of scope, as opposed to putting more of the focus on the heroes and letting the ancillary characters fade to the background - this is one of the things that has really worked with Green Lantern ever since Dave Gibbons run on the books. I really enjoyed Nova's beginnings. I got hooked on the storyline because it was surrounded by tons of my favorite toys. Worldmind planetary AI? Check. Previously distributed immense power concentrated in one individual? Check. A need for a more snarky supermind riding my skull? Well... maybe no check, but it comes close. The art is great, too. I have to say that I enjoyed the beginning of this series more then I thought I would. This is my first introduction to the cosmic arena of the Marvel Universe (Other then then Guardians of the Galaxy movie). The artwork is great, although there are a few large explosion panels that are kind of hard to look at due to brightness of the tablet. The writing is well done in the Nova series. I find the interactions between Nova and Drax to be fun and makes me want to continue their comic beyond this series. Story wise, it is a familiar setup. Large bad guy shows up and kicks everyone's butts. Few heroes band together and find a way to fight it off. I read in this book the Prologue to the Annihilation series and the 4 Nova comics. Started on this because it was the first book on the "Guardians of the Galaxy" reading guide on reddit (yes, I just watched the movie two days ago :p). Was pleasantly surprised to find out that Dan Abnett wrote these books (For the Emperor!). Well... it didn't disssapoint. I will admit it was a bit slow in the beginning. But Nova is brilliantly written. Epic and sombre and campy dialogue that doesn't drag. The feels be there! Man, I haven't read a comic in ages. The feel of this medium has always been something else when done well. (: #happygeekface Note: This TPB collects Drax the Destroyer #1-4 and Nova #1-4. Got this off the Google Play Store, twas cheaper than on Comixology... but I see why... Comixology has a smart reader function thingy going for it (viz. more single taps, less arduous scrolling). Oh well. Going to stick to Google for now. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
