The book is told from Abigail's POV and the beginning of the book lays down the track for the excitement to come. The beginning starts of a little slower as Abigail shares her life story with a stranger, on a patio, at her bachelorette party. However, the overall pace of the story was quite quick. This was the second Peter Swanson book I have read and I will definitely read more of his books in the future. I have really liked every Peter Swanson book I have read so far but this one was a little bit off the deep end for me. I liked the build up and the tone but the characters were rather extreme, to say the least. The ending was not what I thought it would be and, without putting in a spoiler, I didn't know how to process it with my expectations being the opposite. But it was entertaining enough and a easy, quick read so I will still give it 3 stars. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me an opportunity to enjoy this book before publication. I enjoyed the book, "Every Vow You Break" by Peter Swanson; however I found this story lacking. He earlier books had a lot more suspense than this one did and it left me feeling underwhelmed. We can't expect any author to hit it out of the park with every book. But in this case, Swanson struck out swinging. A real disappointment compared with the other novels I've read by him. There were sections of the book that were well done - the descriptions of the island off the coast of Maine where most of the action takes place appropriately conveyed a combination of beauty and menace, for instance. It seemed, though, that Swanson was prepared to throw in any preposterous element or coincidence to make his plot work. And I was never able to get a feel for the main character, Abigail. The premise had potential, an exploration of that old theme about marrying someone you haven't known that long, combined with some some troubling sociological issues that I won't mention to avoid revealing any spoilers. I'll be ready for Swanson's next time at bat, but I kind of wish this one had been rained out.
