No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. this book was way more interesting and informative than it had any right to be. Who knew groceries were at the center of such dark stories. The author did his research on so many aspects f the grocery business, it's amazing. there is a somewhat funny rags to riches story about how Trader Joes came to be to hook you at the beginning, then information on what life is like for truckers, animals being processed for eventual consumption and even modern day slaves, imprisoned so we can have cheap shrimp. I read it because it was on a list of Mary Roache reccommendations for best "true crime" books ,but the real crime would've been passing up on this gem ( ) This covers so much, but there were so many things that weren’t even touched on. I guess that makes sense since groceries is a pretty all encompassing topic. What this boils down to is no ethical consumption under capitalism, and you can only know the morality of your food if you grow it yourself. The trucking industry is a nightmare, but nothing compared to the slave boats that are harvesting shrimp. Nothing mentioned about food waste, food deserts, or immigrants in our own country that we depend on.
The modern American supermarket is a marvel. Species from every season and every part of the globe lie in perfectly aligned stacks, cold and fresh. The middle aisles overflow with foods that remain edible for years and are engineered to give maximum immediate pleasure. Llistes notables
