So many twists and turns and just when you think you have figured out what is going on there is another twist! And the final twist will break your heart. ( )

Super-creepy & what you think is happening probably isn’t what’s happening. Read my review here.

A lonely man lives in a boarded up house at the edge of a forest. His daughter Lauren visits occasionally before irritating Ted and getting sent away. His bible reading cat Olivia tries to protect Ted and doesn't care for Lauren. There is a missing six year old and her older sister believes the answer to her whereabouts lies with Ted.

Unsettling, a book that keeps one off balance. Everytime I thought I had a clue as to what is going on, a new revelation would send me spinning. Like riding on a tilt a world and when all was revealed, well I was completely gobsmacked. Unbelievable, what this author has accomplished. What characters what a plot. Horror yes but also a thriller, without graphic murders or blood soaked scenes.

I listened t the audio narrated by Christopher Ragland. He did a terrific job with the various voices, even the cat. I wonder if I would have had the same reaction if I had read instead of listened? I definitely suggest the audio.

ARC from Netgalley. ( )

I have to admit, this book kept me on my toes the entire time. It was so hard to make sense of things at first. And, like any good horror story, it had that unsettling tone that lets you know something creepy might happen at any moment.

Ted, the main character, is a lonely young man that lives alone with his cat. Sometimes his daughter Lauren comes to visit, but right away readers will understand that there is something “off” about Ted’s lonely existence.

Another story is running alongside the one about Ted and this one features, Dee, a troubled young woman who lost her young sister years ago and is desperate to find her and make the guilt she feels go away.

For quite some time I thought I knew where this was going. When Dee and Ted cross paths, you just know something bad is going to happen. But it won’t be what you may think.

I don’t read much horror, but found this one wasn’t too “out there” for my tastes. As far as triggers, there are references to animal and child abuse, but nothing explicit.

I listened to this on audio and narrator Christopher Ragland did an excellent job. Many thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for allowing me to listen to an early release and give my honest review. ( )

Propulsive and mind-blowing, The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward is a novel that might challenge even the best puzzlers and most jaded mystery fans. Narrated by several characters, the basic premise is to figure out the circumstances surrounding a young girl’s disappearance eleven years ago. Ward pulls her willing readers along for a very curvy ride. Some may experience a sense of exhilaration while others might just end up feeling dizzy. Certainly, most will turn back to page one and reread it with greater understanding. No more can be said without spoiling The Last House on Needless Street. Do yourself a favor—stop reading reviews now and go read this book. The less you know going in, the better.

Thanks to the author, Viper and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review. ( )
