At a time when many Christians no longer practice their faith, there has been an increase in the attention given to the devil and his devious ways. Because the devil seeks to destroy and separate us from God, all Catholics must be on guard. In Exorcism: The Battle Against Satan and His Demons, Fr. Vincent P. Lampert, a seasoned exorcist, presents authentic Catholic teaching on the devil and his plan against humanity. Providing a window into the mérciful ministry of exorcism, Fr. Lampert equips Catholics with the knowledge necessary to avoid becominge vulnerable to spiritual attack. In Exorcism, you'll learn: how the Church selects and trains priests for the ministry of exorcism; where and how the devil operates in the world, and what Scripture has to say about it; why it is vital for Catholics to live a vibrant life of faith; what to do if you suspect the presence of the demonic in your life or in others; and how to fend off spiritual attack and build a stronger relationship with God. In Exorcism, Fr. Lampert makes it clear that the power of Satan to wreak havoc in our lives pales in light of the glorious omnipotence of our Redeemenr, Jesus Christ. Book jacket. There are twelve chapters which Lampert uses to show that people can be overcome by the powers of darkness if they allow it and the usual remedies that which need to be applied in necessary succussion. Most Catholic people will never need to read this book, but it explains the cosmic rationale for evil spirits who wish to harm anyone they can lure into their traps. Lampert makes a balanced presentation for having a basic prayer life and regular use of the sacraments means you will never need the aid of an exorcist. Confession, reception of Holy Communion, and anointing of the sick are the usual means by which we stand in the power of Christ and can be docile to his revealed word in Scripture. Exorcism would only be needed, he lists some of the serious issues which in his past experience repeat themselves, if someone had specific things gone on in their past.
This book is not of interest for everyone. It is very intense at places. But at heart it is a book on the necessity of Christian prayer in everyone’s daily life. I have many books on angels and of course the distinction in the Judeo-Christian tradition predominates since only there is an adequate rational understanding of angels fallen or righteous. This book uses many crucial biblical passages which forms a net to catch the overall meaning of the Bible on Angelology. Every book on Exorcism has to pick a starting point: either the phenomena of demonic possession or the type of life that insulates you and protects you from ever experiencing the deception of inviting an alien spirit to replace God in your life.
Especially helpful prayers conclude the book with a brief bibliography of helpful reading material. ( )
