I received this book as part of the Library Thing early reviewer programme. Crossing two generations, this novel is set on the East Coast of Australia predominately in Sydney and Queensland. It begins with a young traumatised woman found in the refugee camps of WWII Europe, who falls in love with an Australian wool farmer and he with her. In those times Australia wool made many a farmer very wealthy and there was an expression that "Australia lived off the sheep's back" The loving couple came back to Australia in a very unpleasant reception, as Sydney snobbery was dreadful at that time and his mother had someone suitable for him to marry. Whilst they tried desperately to make the marriage work in the end the power of the mother destroyed them and the woman was locked up in an insane asylum and her baby taken. Turn to the second generation of the daughter of that couple, unaware of her true background and a powerful newscaster is accused of murder. In order to save her, her past is revealed, but is she really innocent of killing the man she is accused of killing? ( )

Slow to start and then bam it got so good it was tough to put it down. Complex characters, plot twists and an ending that ties it all together. ( )

I really enjoyed Jennifer Bacia's A Very Public Scandal. The way that Bicia was able to twine the mysteries throughout the novel and then watch them unfold was very enjoyable. The characters were very complex and the power of women was really pushed throughout the book and it made for a very enjoyable read. ( )

I received a free copy of this book as part of LibraryThing's Early Reviewers scheme.

I really loved this book, and read it very quickly. The characters were very well drawn and I liked the overall story. The main characters are mainly strong women and I liked the historical research. I found the coincidence of people in certain places a little difficult to swallow, but the lovely writing and excellent story made up for this.

I would love to say more about the book, but don't want to give away any spoilers, just read the book! ( )

A Very Public Scandal by Jennifer Bacia is a riveting mystery from beginning to end. I could hardly put it down. That was just as well because the story jumps back and forth through time with lots of characters so it’s easier to keep it all straight if you read it quickly. It would be hard to describe the story without giving too much away. The story covers the time from World War II through 30 to 40 years afterwards. Suffice it to say that it was consistently interesting with lots of twists and unexpected turns and well worth reading. ( )
