This novel has a colorful cast of characters which are easy to hate and like simultaneously because they add the chaos in this mystery thriller. It occasionally made me laugh because some of the antics could seriously only occur to those with nothing better to do in life!

The story begins with a terrible car accident which has Georgia hospitalized on a vent and Robert apparently dead after he struck a woman in the street. The story that follows describes the 6 days prior to the accident.

Brooke Davies is a 28 year old murder mystery writer who moves with her 50 year old billionaire husband, Jack. He tries to appear as an easy going guy but in reality he is very much in control of his narrative. While he is off working, Brooke tries to settle in and get acquainted with her neighbors in the gated community.

The Presidio Terrace neighborhood may appear safe and uneventful but that is far from the case. Erin King is President if the Homeowners Association which they find critical to maintain the manicured look of the wealthy neighborhood. During their meetings they discuss important matters such as making sure that one’s lawn measures at the approved height and whether someone left their garage door open too long!

It isn’t long before Erin introduces Brooke to her equally gossipy friend Georgia St Claire who happens to be heading down the wedding aisle yet again. This time to Robert Donnelly who seems to be more in love his yacht Maxine. She is known as the Black Widow given her previous husbands died under unusual circumstances. Her first husband Eli took a fatal fall down a flight of stairs. Andrew, her second husband dies from a bullet in his head from an intruder. Undeterred by the gossip, they plan to be married in a week.

Before long Brooke becomes fast friends with the two gossip mongers of the neighborhood. They are quick to talk about everyone else and their unfortunate lives until the façade of their seemingly “perfect” lives are shattered. I enjoyed the gossipy women and their husbands who eventually have to acknowledge that life isn’t always what it seems. Or is it? ( )

Hello "Real Housewives." This is a fast-paced book of three women on a wild ride of intoxicating suspense.

These wives are beyond gorgeous with bodies that most readers can only imagine. They own expensive wardrobes and jewelry that tops the charts and of course, they are with men that fit the bill. They live in the same exclusive San Francisco neighborhood with a view of the Pacific Ocean and Golden Gate Bridge.

There's Georgia who is known as the "black widow." Two of her recent husband's have mysteriously died and she's getting ready to marry her third. Jack seems perfect although he's having a love affair with his yacht which he has named, "Maxine."

Her best friend, Erin, has a professional career as a news anchor with a self-serving attitude always worrying about keeping up with her image. She's married to Mason, a noted plastic surgeon.

Brooke seems nice. She writes murder mysteries and what better neighborhood to be in to get some tips for her best-selling novels. Her billionaire husband, Jack, bought the house in Presidio Terrace for his wife. He's 22 years older on his second marriage but she sees him as a good catch.

The author makes this an easy and quick read with the strong beginning. We either love the characters or dismiss them. But whatever it is, we keep reading to see what happens next.

My thanks to Kristin Miller, Ballantine Books and NetGallery for allowing me to read this advanced copy to be released on July 20, 2021 ( )

“The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives” opens with questions but no answers, perceptions but no meaning; soon, everything will fall into place. The narrative is carefully planned, and events evolve slowly and deceptively. Just when a reader thinks things are moving in one way, they take a shocking turn. I will not reveal those details in this review. You will have to read the book for yourself.

The exclusive Presidio Terrace neighborhood is expensive. It offers top-level security and a fairy tale life style with happily ever after dreams. However, it also has a vortex of negative energy and drama that clings to the air like fog. Its residents have everything, money, status, quirks, and secrets. Deep down, they are good people. Or are they? The neighborhood is filled with the remnants of nasty divorces and the subsequent marriages to stereotypical trophy wives. One resident, Georgia St. Claire, acquired the unfortunate nickname “Black Widow” after the deaths of two husbands in ten years. On the surface, these trophy wives are welcoming, cheerful and friendly, however when the gloves come off and the masks are gone, they can be nasty, petty, gossipy, and back-stabbing.

The story unfolds in two alternating first person narratives by Brooke Davies, author and wife of a tech industry mogul, and by Erin King, reporter on the KFLAG evening news and wife of a plastic surgeon. Davies is working on her next mystery novel. She wants to maintain her image in the community, so she generally keeps her status as an author to herself. She hopes that some of her neighbors might be an inspiration for a malicious “trophy wife” character in her next book. She also does not want anyone to bring up her own husband’s nasty divorce and hasty marriage to, well, her.
Erin King is frustrated with her life, her job, and her marriage. She is seeing a therapist and trying to make everything work, but she stomps off her TV job in a giant tantrum. While she waits to be begged to come back to work at the station, she commiserates with fellow residents and helps plan the upcoming third marriage of Georgia. Georgia is rolling in money and is spending a lot of it, with Erin’s help, on the upcoming “third time is a charm” festivities. When the day of the engagement party arrives, things do not go well; police are called, and events take more twists and turns than a roller coaster. (That’s all I will say.)
“The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives” is more than just a story of crazy rich people; it is full of intrigue, misdirection and shocking twists. I received a review copy of “The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives” from Kristin Miller, Random House Publishing Group, and Ballantine Books. There are certain things people cannot escape, and everything really does come full circle. ( )

I’m a sucker for books that let me live vicariously through the life of the rich and fabulous and The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives did not disappoint! So much suspense mixed with an inside look at the lives of the elite makes for a perfect beach read and escape from reality. I didn’t want this book to end and I found myself missing the character when it did. Looking forward to more books by Kristin Miller!! ( )

Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing .
Three women; three women living dream lives, or so it seems. Erin King married to her husband Mason, a plastic surgeon; Georgia St. Claire, also known as The Black Widow; and Brooke Davies, married to her tech billionaire husband, Jack. These three women looking for something “else.” Erin, Georgia and Brooke coming to a crossroad in their lives.

Erin, a TV anchor, finally finds her backbone in the newsroom and won’t sit by being treated as a commodity and decides to walkout. Erin will not return unless it is on her terms. However, the “terms” aren’t quite what she expected when she comes back into the newsroom.

Brooke, an author in her own right, a wife of a workaholic in Jack, is looking forward to meeting her neighbors. She’s hoping for some inspiration for her characters from her neighbors for her book.

Georgia has a track record. Married twice. Her first husband tumbled down the marble staircase and died. Her second husband shot himself in his office. Rumor has it that it was Georgia who killed Husbands 1 and 2 but she claims her innocence and there has been no arrest. Presently Georgia is marrying husband 3, Robert, a wealthy man, and claims she genuinely loves Robert. Georgia wants to stem the “Black Widow” stigma and find her happily ever after.

However, when Robert goes missing after a pre-wedding party on his yacht, Georgia doesn’t know where to turn for help. She calls the police to report him missing, but has to wait 24 hours before filing a report.

While the search for Robert continues, the women’s secrets start to come out and Brooke learns that all those rumors don’t even start to compare to the truth.

The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is a novel with a lot of drama that will keep you guessing until the end. The Sinful Lives of Trophy Wives is not my type of book but it is a good beach read. ( )
