This was a really great novel that consistently built up to a very satisfying story. It seemed very simple at first, but quickly the character's complexity and struggles are revealed. I would definitely be interested to see how the rest of The Faredene Trilogy plays out. ( )Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . The story begins as a kitchen girl novel, but quickly transcends this level. The protagonist is Victoria Kavanagh. The thread running through the story is the struggle against marital violence and inequality. It gives a good glimpse of life in a small English town in Victorian times. the position of the woman, the development of a haberdashery business, a cotton mill... the lives of the wealthy and that of the workers and domestic servants. Fine character drawing, no high-quality literature, but well-written and good storytelling pace. I was able to read this story thanks to Early Reviewers and look forward to part two of this trilogy with great anticipation. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
