Sweet little unrealistic Magic Realism queer short-story with a good soundtrack and a fluid narrative ( ) Fell and Laurie bond over the music on radio’s Ms. Jackson’s Graveyard Shift show. Laurie, enthralled by Iggy Pop’s “The Passenger” [which she’s hearing for the first time], is stunned when she hears someone singing the song at the Salvation Army Store. Instant compatriots, the two set out to discover the truth about the, weird voice they’d heard at the end of the song. Simple interference? The Russians trying to heat up the Cold War? A pilot from the Air Force base? A time traveler? A star man? What will Fell and Laurie discover? ========= This Tor short story, despite its propensity to pander to political correctness with its references to a woke gender ideology that seems quite out of place in the 1991 setting, touches the heart with its poignancy. The music plays and two teens bond because music has the power to connect us. But everything leads to the mystery of the strange transmission and an unanticipated connection that is sure to touch the heartstrings. Sam J. Miller's love song-story to the 80's and radio and coming-of-age and otherness and David Bowie is spectacular. Really great short fiction that achieves what most novels do not. In fact for me this was more affecting and fun to read than Miller's novels. Let All The Children Boogie is great and you need to read it. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
