I have not been able to put down this series since I started it! Absolutely love it and the unpredictable plot twists. This book was exciting in the beginning and and end; however, the middle was slow in parts. Additionally, this book had much more spice than the other two (reminiscent of ACOSF). While well written, some of the scenes seemed to be just thrown in for the sake of spice rather than actually contributing to the plot. Cannot wait for the next book in the series! Poor baby Cas 😭 I don't know why I thought this was a trilogy but I definitely did think it was a trilogy and I'm a little upset that this isn't the end of this series. This was fine except for the fact that I was expecting a conclusion and didn't get one (but that is a me problem). This again had some issues for we with regard to the middle part of this book. This book starts off very quickly. A ton happens in the first part of this book and then the action just stops. I really had a hard time getting through the middle of this book. It just didn't feel like a lot was happening. The middle part revolved around the more interpersonal part of this book but there didn't really seem to be a lot of growth except for Poppy considering her place in Atlantia. The other part that really started to bother me was that a lot of Poppy's big decisions revolved around her brother who we have never met and I do not care about enough about to care what happens to him. It works okay with Cas' brother because we know that Cas doesn't really want to be king and that he knows what is like to be captured by the Ascended but it doesn't work with Ian because we never even really see Poppy reminisce on good memories with Ian. The plot does pick back up at the end but even the end felt weirdly slow. I think it's partly because of the fact I was expecting the series to end here, which I won't blame the book for and partly because of the lack of emotional attachment, which is the books fault. I also think it did feel a bit rushed. The characters and the relationships are still fine. I like the relationship between Poppy and Cas, though I think the development between them has stalled a little bit. I wanted to see more Kieran in this so hopefully that will happen in the next book. This third book did leave me wanting to see more from the next book. I am still curious and I will almost certainly continue this. I am a little upset this isn't a trilogy but that won't stop me from continuing. HOLY CRAP WHAT A CLIFFHANGER. I'M TOO IMPATIENT FOR THE RELEASE OF THE 4TH BOOK REEEEE I am not surprised that JLA ended the book in such a high note. The development of Poppy over the 3 books has left me bewitched. The only regret is that I did not wait for the series to complete. I hate this wait between books. Rating Poppy as one of the best female leads written by JLA so far.
