A different story about antisemitism and ww2 ( ) It was a really great story about some Canadians during the depression and WWII. I haven't seen many books about the Canadians and WWII so this was particularly appreciated. I loved how the author took events that happened in Toronto and then during the war and taught us about them while telling the story. One of the best books I have read this year! I love wartime dramas, but I especially loved this one because it actually taught me about a battle I knew nothing about, the Battle of Hong Kong. It was also interesting to hear how the Jews were treated here in Canada at the onset of WWII. I guess it was something I had never thought about. We all know about what happened in Europe but I had heard little of the tensions that were going on right here at home. The story was fantastic and the writing was even better. Everything was so fluid and the way the chapters switched between characters was executed perfectly leaving you with just the right amount of suspense. The characters really came alive. I felt every emotion they felt which of course led to many tears. Letters Across the Sea was wonderful and I can't wait to read more by this author who just happens to be a fellow Canadian. This novel is about WWII but in a different part of the world. Ms. Graham covers Toronto, Canada during that period. There was anti-semitism there as well. She brings in historical facts that are just as horrendous as anything in Europe. This time it is the Japanese who are the perpetrators. The relationships/interactions between the characters in her book, both antagonists and protagonists, will keep you reading through each page. Emotions are going up and down. One becomes part of the story. Ms. Graham is an excellent writer. I cannot wait for "Bluebird" to come out. Letters Across the Sea is a historical fiction novel by Genevieve Graham. This novel is well written and definitely a page-turner that I could not put down once I started. The friendship between two families, in Toronto, are ruined thanks to Hitler's ideologies (Swastika Clubs) and his hated for the Jewish communities. Although this is a WWII novel, it is set in Canada and the story takes you through the battles in Hong Kong and what the Canadian soldiers went through. A definite must have for your bookshelf. Highly recommend! Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
