![]() Mystery & Detective (120) No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. A gripping thriller that follows the story of two best friends, Emily and Kristen, who travel to Chile for vacation. When a tragic "incident" occurs, they must grapple with the aftermath in lieu of their past actions while trying to keep their relationship intact. With a plot maze that keeps readers riveted, "We Were Never Here" is a page-turner that explores the complexities of relationships...and how far one will go to preserve them. I wasted time getting to page 90 in this book. The premise was ridiculous, the characters were unappealing and the repetitive writing was wearying. Not sure what I missed when I read some of the glowing reviews, but I had to put it down before I found out why. Two friends travel to exotic locations for fun. In Cambodia, one of the women is sexually assaulted and the women accidently kill him. Fearing they'll be unable to avoid a foreign jail, they dump the body in the river, leave the city and deal with the trauma when they return to their homes. During the follow-up trip the following year, a similar thing happens to the other woman and again they bury the body in a secluded Chilian roadside. Eventually we learned this second assault was staged and we learn the all of death's in Kristen's past aren't necessarily coincidental. Bro what did I just read?? The characters were the most 2D characters I have ever read, like there was literally no nuance at all to any of them ?? It was all just like oh no batshit villain and ooo perfect guy who will save the day and protagonist who can do no wrong and absentee parents and abusive fathers and carefree coworkers (gosh they don’t know suffering like I do, they’ve never murdered anyone) and abusive boyfriends and like, why was this even written? What was I supposed to get out of this other than the misogynistic crazy girl trope? Two stars because it’s not as horrendous as some of the one-star books I’ve read recently. ALSO how on earth am I supposed to believe that someone understood the most cryptic codes without any struggle at all? It was like “oh obviously “Hey! Sup?” was code for “I am going to murder you” Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK * "This book is every suspense lover's dream and it kept me up way too late turning pages. . . . A novel with crazy twists and turns that will have you ditching your Friday night plans for more chapters."--Reese Witherspoon A backpacking trip has deadly consequences in this "eerie psychological thriller . . . with alluring locales, Hitchcockian tension, and possibly the best pair of female leads since Thelma and Louise" (BookPage), from the bestselling author of The Lost Night and The Herd. A Marie Claire Book Club Pick * Named One of the Most Anticipated Books of the Year by Oprah Daily, BuzzFeed, Reader's Digest, Men's Journal, and CrimeReads Emily is having the time of her life--she's in the mountains of Chile with her best friend, Kristen, on their annual reunion trip, and the women are feeling closer than ever. But on the last night of the trip, Emily enters their hotel suite to find blood and broken glass on the floor. Kristen says the cute backpacker she brought back to their room attacked her, and she had no choice but to kill him in self-defense. Even more shocking: The scene is horrifyingly similar to last year's trip, when another backpacker wound up dead. Emily can't believe it's happened again--can lightning really strike twice? Back home in Wisconsin, Emily struggles to bury her trauma, diving headfirst into a new relationship and throwing herself into work. But when Kristen shows up for a surprise visit, Emily is forced to confront their violent past. The more Kristen tries to keep Emily close, the more Emily questions her motives. As Emily feels the walls closing in on their cover-ups, she must reckon with the truth about her closest friend. Can Emily outrun the secrets she shares with Kristen, or will they destroy her relationship, her freedom--even her life? No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |

2 girls go on exotic vacations and terrible things ensue. This throws the very foundation of the friendship into question. A toxic co-dependency that has been speeding toward its demise for the last year (at least)— and we’re along for the ride. Will they be able to figure things out? Will they go to jail? There’s so much to lose and no one to trust.
I fell so hard into this book I felt like I WAS Emily. My heart was beating so rapidly, I just had to finish this book ASAP. It wasn’t the most shocking/twisty book in the world, but the build up to the thrilling end was so intense. Definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. (
