Waite seems like a gentleman who is take hostage while trying to do good, then suffering awfully at the hands of his captors. Remarkable strength of character ( ) Was a very interesting and personal book. It felt like you were there, the no nonsense telling of his experience made it all the more heart wrenching. The casual brutality of chaining someone to a wall day in and day out to make a political statement and the pain of seeing glimpses outside of other people getting on with their lives while he was in some sort of limbo was made real by the narrative. How interesting can it be to be kept as a prisoner in a darkened room for four years? Well, much more so than I'd expected, and he intersperses this with engaging snapshots from his life. Of course there was a happy ending for him when he was released. How he came to be held hostage and the story of those four years is a long and winding tale, but ultimately worthwhile, and I don't blame him for getting a book out of it after such an ordeal.
