I grew up in a family of game wardens. These stories took me back to when I would listen to those men tell stories of their exploits. Very entertaining. Very well written. I plan on reading the rest of the books in this series. Highly recommend! ( )Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . The life of a game warden is pretty interesting. These true stories gave me an insight into their job and how tedious and frustrating it can be. The quote by one warden sums up justice, "We catch them, they let them go." "They" meaning the judges. It definitely seems like a thankless job and I'm sure most law enforcement officers feel the same way. I enjoyed all these stories but my favorite was The Ghosts of Tipper Slough. I also enjoyed the bonus audio chapter Combat Fishing. I had a blast listening to that story being told. One thing I would have enjoyed being added to this book is a glossary. Some words and phrases known only to the hunting community and game wardens were unknown to me. Thank to Librarything for this free book and the opportunity to read and review it. Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . I really appreciate short stories and these were quite interesting, especially since they were true stories. I thought they were well written. I would like to read more in this series. Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . This was such an easy book to read but filled with great stories of game wardens and their often dangerous work. I'd very much like to read the other series, they're quite interesting. It takes a special person to do what they do, often without any backup. Thank you LibraryThing for a copy for my review. Ressenya escrita per a Crítics Matiners de LibraryThing . Before the advent of reality television the general public tended to be unaware of the extent of wildlife related crime in the US and of the role of game wardens in apprehending violators. Game wardens are involved in much more than checking for fishing licenses and deer tags. Some of the cases in this book involve professional poachers, who kill game animals for profit, selling the meat to restaurants or other customers. Others involve people who fish or hunt out of season or in forbidden areas, or using unlawful methods such as spotlighting or baiting deer or snagging salmon. The work of catching these criminals can be dangerous. The wardens often work alone, in remote areas and are, obviously, facing people with weapons. This volume, part of a series, offers a variety of cases and a glimpse into the state of mind of these law enforcement officers. Good reading for anyone interested in protection of wildlife. "Warden Force is a collection of award-winning short stories currently spanning seven volumes. Each story reveals the true adventures of California Fish and Game Wardens and the wildlife-destroying outlaws they pursue. These stories illustrate the wide variety of wildlife-related problems wardens face in California, which has a greater diversity of wildlife and wildlife habitat than any other state and is second only to Alaska in its vast expanses of wilderness"--Amazon.com.
