![]() Youth: Diversity (26) No hi ha cap discussió a Converses sobre aquesta obra. RThis is a sweet kids book about missing someone and cooking their recipes to feel closer to them. Neela misses her Paati and makes her sauce to jar so she can share it with her when she comes to visit. The book also covers info about farm workers and foods in season. A nice story and great illustrations ( ![]() Note: I accessed a digital review copy of this book through Edelweiss. Neela loves to cook with amma (mom) and think about her paati (grandmother in Tamil) that lives all the way in India. The book tells the story of Neela and Amma exploring a famers market to find tomatoes to make Paati's wonderful sauce recipe. Neela learns all about the different types of tomatoes and then she and her Amma cook together. Martinez-Neal's illustrations glow warmly from the page in this slightly oversized book about Neela and her mama and all the recipes they make, from a variety of cultural traditions: ceviche, dosas, rice pilaf, spaghetti and meatballs, sushi, mango pudding. Neela is interested in her Amma's recipe book and her paati's recipe book. Neela and her Amma go to the market to choose tomatoes; Neela loves tomato sauce because of the taste, but also because it makes her feel closer to her paati, "who lived far away in India." Paati is shown in the illustrations as a grayscale figure with a red bindi. Back matter includes a recipe for Paati's tomato sauce, Neela's tomato chutney, tomato fun facts, "about farmworkers," and an author's note. Gorgeous and warm, a great book for sharing whether you're a fan of tomatoes or not. Family traditions around recipes, and recipes which cooking with tomatoes in particular, are the basis for this sweet and gentle story focused on a little girl, Neela, her mother and her far-away grandmother. Two yummy recipes (one for a tomato sauce and one for a tomato chutney) are shared at the end of the story. A history of the tomato, a primer of various types of tomatoes and workers involved in their production are included. The illustrations are very dreamy and delicately muted, setting a calm mood of weaving family storytelling and the illustrations are a delicious treat themselves. The story uses some terms, amma and paati, which aren't explained and might not be known by readers, but hopefully are quickly understood. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
