It was really strange reading this—felt very, very classic Trek in many ways, but also very 80s. Amazing to read about a South American dictatorship being propped up by the US—oops, I mean a backward planet propped up by the Federation, ha ha... I enjoy books that continue storylines where old episodes left off, which is what this book does. I enjoyed exploring the world of Boaco Six along with the characters in the book and seeing a world torn apart by a recent revolution and the struggles of trying to bring a pre-warp civilization into modern times while retaining their own heritage. The Boaco Six parts of the book were very well done. The parts regarding to the Onlies and leading up to their interaction with the Boaco parts of the storyline felt a bit lacking however. It didn't seem like the main focus of the book was on them, as the title implies. It is a minor gripe however, as I would still very recommend reading. A bit of a convoluted plot that brings together characters and events from two Star Trek episodes: the one about the 300-year old children and the "grups", and the one with Flint, nearly immortal, who was Brahms, Shakespeare, Da Vinci and many other men of genius during his long life on Earth. One jarring note is how calmly Kirk takes it when Spock confesses to him that he had altered his memory to save him pain at the conclusion of the latter episode. Interesting book, but only for the connections with earlier episodes. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
