Dalton continues to build his and his team’s investigative reputation with the addition of Rick Westmoreland. After the death of a fellow Earth Ward inspector chief, Dalton goes to Baton Rouge to investigate. His colleague had been looking into the disappearance of prominent people from the area. That investigation had focused on a Lightmire connection. The Lightmires are long-lived human-looking beings with the ability to cure human ailments. The investigation leads further to a parallel earth nexus. After breaching barriers protecting the nexus, the team downloads a policy archive that documents the methodology used to replace people with a parallel world’s regime-friendly clones, the regime’s goal, known as the Dynkara, is to take over all parallel worlds. Dalton and his team evade being killed by the Dynkara by escaping to a primitive parallel earth with carnivorous plants and animals. They ultimately get away from that world's fauna and humanoid hunters and travel back to the team’s original earth using Dalton’s interdimensional portal opening ability.

Armed with proof of a Lightmire faction adding and abetting an alternate world’s conquest goals, Dalton meets with the Lightmire leadership to present his proof and to single out the guilty individuals. This leads to a Lightmire faction insurrection that Dalton and his team ultimately help Lightmire leadership overcome.

Notably, Dalton is not a killer. All opponents attempting to hurt Dalton and his team are stunned, captured, and turned over to earth authorities. It is the morals that he adheres to that make the Inspector Dalton Sci-Fi action series so uplifting to read. ( )

I love the world and characters in this series by Hart. In his Evaran series the great chemistry between characters is wonderful and Hart brings that same dynamic chemistry to this team too. The other thing he also shines at is the futuristic armor, weapons, transportation, and androids/AIs.

The Dalton team is trying to find out who and why another Earth Ward team was killed. Lots of suspects. There are also vampires in their own town and Lightmares (healers). Everyone seems guilty to me.😉 There is some suspense and sprinkling of humor too! Read book one first.

Great action, dialogue, plot, and team. Always a joy to read Hart's books. This was a book I requested and the review is voluntary. ( )
