This was a random LibraryThing rec. Picking up book #33 in a series with no context is kind of crazy, but Sands did a great job even for newbie. You're thrown into the action right away as the book opens up with a plane crash and as it moves on, you pick up what's going on in this fantasy world pretty quickly. There are vampires who aren't vampires and we're following one woman who was changed against her will by her husband over four years ago. She was really upset about her changing and is still working through that trauma and her bad marriage when she meets a mortal pilot who turns out to be her mate. So it's a fated mate romance with a LOT of excitement. At 35% in I thought I was approaching the end of this audiobook because it really felt climactic and there are multiple scenes like that throughout the book along with a bunch of aborted sex scenes. They're in a very dangerous situation so it's hard for them to make time to get it on, but maybe 20% in I was ready for her to just jump his bones already. And 50% in I was desperate for them to just find a room with a closed door and no eavesdroppers. My attention wavered near the end so I'm not sure if they ever found that room. I think they settled for a car. But this was a fast, good time all around.

I received an advance reader copy from NetGalley quite some time ago. Under no fault of the book itself, I just got around to finishing it. This series is totally a guilt pleasure read for me, I'm invested in the characters and love reading what trouble they get into. "Mile High With a Vampire" while has a few of our reoccurring characters is a brand new book about Quinn and Jet. It is full of more action then the prior books in the series and starts off with a plane crash. Quinn and Jet find themselves in the wilderness together and soon realize that maybe the plane crash wasn't an accident after all. I look forward to reading more in the series.

This is a fast reading, hot and sexy vampire 'romance.

I adore Lynsay Sands early vampire novels and all of her historicals. The earlier novels relied more on comedy; for instance, The Accidental Vampire or Single White Vampire. These are the types of books that started this series. Now, I know that no long-running series can rely on only certain tropes and remain fresh and popular, but I have to say that the last few books I've read rely more on sex and violence than anything else. If that is your thing, the darker aspect of vampire romance, then you are going to adore this book.

Mile High With a Vampire starts quite strong; very exciting and stays that way for a certain amount of time, then because we are immediately thrust into sexual situations. I won't tell you why because that would be a spoiler. But you will figure it out soon enough; believe me, it's obvious.

Something that bothers me is that we start with certain characters that seemed to be playing important roles -and then we never hear about them again. That seemed to be a bit of inadvertently unfinished business and annoyed me a bit.

Also, I'm not sure if I missed a book or not, but we never truly get the full story on Quinns' change -the why's of it. Did I miss a book?

I think that I really need to step back from reading my comfort Argeneau books if I am going to continue this series. That or I need to drop at least 20 years! LOL!
