A love letter to Nanny full of stories of the four grandsons she raised and the lessons she taught them. The author, called by his family Matt in his youth, write about his experience along with Garrett, Rall, and Rasul growing up in New Jersey.
After recounting some instances, the author makes comments about trauma, cultural change, and lots of reflections about Black joy. So there is a sharing of life events in the memoir and some reflection as well both in personal impact and in cultural and societal impact.

Each kid, now an adult, writes a letter to their Grandma as well that is included in the book.
It starts with some trigger warnings and language use cautions. There is a description on what the author describes as nonconsensual sex within the book. ( )
