Steel: The Cartographer book 2

This follow-up to Quill offers a satisfying second chapter to the story. It maintains the elements that were so enjoyable in the first--the well drawn characters, the engaging world, and the action--while tweaking a few things to change the feel.

The pace has evened out from the first novel, and has achieved a nice ebb and flow in this book. The sex has been toned down, for better or worse, but it's still there. And this time we get a bit more satisfaction in defeating some bigger bads.

The book is not, however, without its flaws. A couple of actions taken by our protagonists struck me as flat out stupid, frankly, which is never a good feeling. Also, I feel like the time in the Cold Lands was a bit disappointing. The area played such a deep role in the background, I expected it to be much more sinister.

Overall, this was a fun popcorn read, and I'm glad I got the cover to read it!
