"The Charm Offensive will sweep you off your feet." --PopSugar In this witty and heartwarming romantic comedy--reminiscent of Red, White & Royal Blue and One to Watch--an awkward tech wunderkind on a reality dating show goes off-script when sparks fly with his producer. Dev Deshpande has always believed in fairy tales. So it's no wonder then that he's spent his career crafting them on the long-running reality dating show Ever After. As the most successful producer in the franchise's history, Dev always scripts the perfect love story for his contestants, even as his own love life crashes and burns. But then the show casts disgraced tech wunderkind Charlie Winshaw as its star. Charlie is far from the romantic Prince Charming Ever After expects. He doesn't believe in true love, and only agreed to the show as a last-ditch effort to rehabilitate his image. In front of the cameras, he's a stiff, anxious mess with no idea how to date twenty women on national television. Behind the scenes, he's cold, awkward, and emotionally closed-off. As Dev fights to get Charlie to connect with the contestants on a whirlwind, worldwide tour, they begin to open up to each other, and Charlie realizes he has better chemistry with Dev than with any of his female co-stars. But even reality TV has a script, and in order to find to happily ever after, they'll have to reconsider whose love story gets told.… (més)

“You could only spend thirty minutes on a practice date with me because you had such a thoroughly miserable time.”
“Excuse you, we’re still on that practice date, and I just connected five pieces in a row.” He snaps another puzzle piece into place. “I’m having a fucking incredible time.”

The star of a dating program has anxiety and OCD and practices fake dates his producer and then falls in love with him for real. It’s just as cliche and dramatic as it sounds, but I had a fun time reading it.
I’m not sure if I’m sold entirely on their romance, but I have no complaints either. I liked both main characters connected because that they did not feel the pressure to pretend to be Fun Dev or functional genius Charlie.
I wasn’t a fan of the way the women on the show were written at the start, as if they were afterthoughts to the story of Charlie and the crew, but Daphne and Angie who made it to the second half were lovely. They gave the highly fake and drama engineered side of Ever After a more nuanced face and I really liked that they both became dimensional characters. ( )

Yay libraries!

Fun, quirky prose kept me entertained, and the characters are great. I knew how it would end, but the way the author hates on these reality shows and yet is also compassionate, and the HEA of busting the script out of its shackles, was great. There is more vomiting than I expected. You'll hate it if you're a bigot, which is a terrific reason to read it, my friends. There's no overt sex at all, which is refreshing, merely references. Did I mention the great characters? I wish I'd read this sooner. ( )

I liked the characters, I liked the representation, and I (mostly) enjoyed the romance. I didn't enjoy the conflict, though I guess I can buy it to an extent. Plotwise this is pretty much fluff, which should be a given to anyone who picks up a romance novel revolving around a fictional The Bachelor. A quick, feel good romance with slightly less feel goody bits. This book also has the amount of sex scenes I usually tend to enjoy. That is, there were some, but they weren't very explicit and were borderline fade to black. ( )

This novel is as I expected - a complete charmer. It incorporates a didacticism that is ok with me - not too much.

Charlie has OCD and it is conveyed with utter charm, inclusiveness, compassion, fun. Not that I know anything about OCD, but that's how it seemed to me.

The reality TV producer Dave is an equally a remarkable character - his positivity, his empathy - his capacity for caring is the biggest element in the novel.

I read 3/4 of this book, and then after a month's hiatus, mopped up the ending. I didn't think the ending lived up to the rest of the book unfortunately. But glad I finished it, otherwise I'd always have wondered how Dave and Charlie's conundrum was resolved. ( )

It's refreshing to read a romance where the love interests aren't just a collection of red flags. ( )
