This is a short nonfiction coffee table book about the car scene in Berks and Montgomery Counties of Pennsylvania. It contains 143 pictures on quality paper, mostly seeming to be from the 2000's or newer, but with some going as far back as the '60s. The title is slightly deceptive, in that less than half of the book is about cruising. The rest of the book is about three different types of racing at three local tracks. While this has nothing to do with cruising, it is still interesting and the pictures are fun to look at. The book should not be purchased for the words in it, however, only for the neat pictures, because the captions are very simplistic and not very interesting. This is a book to look at, not to read. That being said, there are some great car pictures in here, even if it is a little too short and contains too many modern pictures. I'd give the book two and half stars, or three where half stars are not allowed. ( ) Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
Montgomery and Berks Counties have been central to the car industry for decades, employing residents of the cities and surrounding small towns. Pottstown first came to be known as the cruising capital of the East Coast in the 1950s and held on to the title for many years. In the 1960s, hundreds would line the sidewalks to watch the hot rods and classic cars cruise down High Street. Among the circuit favorites were the Tropical Treat, Hilltop Drive-In, and Dempsey Diner. Lansdale also attracted automobile enthusiasts who enjoyed "cruising the Dale." In 1962, the Maple Grove Raceway, a quarter-mile strip in Mohnton, opened and became home to the popular Super Chevy Weekend, hosting great drivers like Fred Spezio, Ken Hall, and John Johnson. The Grandview Speedway and the Reading Fairgrounds Speedway also emerged, attracting even more auto racing enthusiasts from around the area. Today, longtime residents enjoy reminiscing their beloved cruising pastime, with many belonging to historical automotive clubs. No s'han trobat descripcions de biblioteca. |
