The students enjoyed hearing this story about a girl who finds comfort during hard times in her local library. The story is written as a letter to her librarian thanking her for her support and care. Some students were a little confused about that, thinking the author was speaking to them! ( ) Want a book that I KNOW will make you get misty? Or a book that is a love letter to librarians? What about a book that subtly hits on homelessness in children? Do you know a librarian who has made a difference in your life? Look no further than this book. I absolutely adore it! It is so sweet. It is based on a true story. It speaks to why I love this profession in which I have called home. Young girl Lydia was five years old when her family left Colorado for her grandmama’s place in Iowa. Her father lost his job, and they needed a place to live. Lydia’s family comprised her mom, dad, five big sisters, and one baby brother. Little missed her Colorado home every single day. Because in Iowa, they lived in various people’s houses on different days. She desperately wanted a place to call home. Then, one day, her mom took her and her siblings to a prominent, beautiful building loaded with books - The Library. This place changed everything for Lydia. We picked this book for its cover and title. This book is a hearty and delightful tribute to the author’s childhood influencer. Positive inspirations are what you need during bad times, and that’s what the librarian was to Lydia. Her kindness brought much-needed happiness into young Lydia’s life. The illustrator has done a marvelous job of bringing to life the author’s life-changing moments. Dear Librarian by Lydia M. Sigwarth is a well-deserved tribute to the beautiful souls who lift our spirits. The illustrations walk one through the story in a perfect symphony. The author personalizes the story of her own childhood experience with moving to a new community where she did not have a home of her own. The library became the place where she had space to do the things children love to do because of a very special librarian to whom the author pays tribute. I loved the real photos at the end showing a reunion of the girl who became a librarian and the librarian who created that special environment for her. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
