Rating: 4 stars plus 1 star for the author note!!

I am a sucker for process and the author's note was beautiful, and complete. I fell in love with the story for a second time after reading it.

OKAY, LETS MOVE ON TO THE REVIEW!!

First things first, this is my first book my Cameron James. I knew that this is the story of Cassidy but also that he is not a new character, neither was the universe where Cassidy is Queen. However, I felt no trouble in understanding the premise or the relationships between the characters.

Coming to the story, it honestly just kept giving. Coming from a country where the generations have only recently opened up to respect people's choices in terms of their gender and sexuality (only opened up, we got a long way to go), I utilize books and stories like Cassidy is Queen to educate myself in these matters and learn addressing people in the way that they choose to be addressed.

The story starts off with a flamboyant Cassidy, unapologetic and free. As it progresses, we learn of his hidden dilemmas, his beautiful and considerate heart, his struggle with a homophobic father and see him fall in love while he figured out his identity. While Cassidy is the queen of the story, we learn so much about the other characters, the struggles they face in their lives, and the relationships that they build with each other.

It took me a few chapters to get comfortable with the story but the author's writing just pulled me in. There came a point when I just could not stop reading because of the twists and the anticipation that the author builds. Who is sending Cassidy the notes? OMG, IS SOMEONE BLACKMAILING HIM? Holy shit, this is insane!!!

In the end, this is such a positive story, it will surely warm your hearts. I think this is a must read, and since it IS a quick one, it could also get you out of a reading slump.

PS. My favorite part of the story was that the story also dealt with consent and emphasized on what a healthy relationship should look like, in the best possible way.

Thank you to Pride Book Tours and the author for sharing a review copy in exchange for my honest opinion. ( )
