I hear this series gets good around book 3 or 4 but this story was fairly predictable. Very fun and intriguing read. Typical mystery plot, but spiced up with a large dose of wizardry and cynicism. Happy I read it! I really wasn't sure what to expect when I started listening to Storm Front. I'd heard of the TV show The Dresden Files but never watched an episode or even knew what it was about. I didn't know until recently that the show was based on a series of books. It wasn't until I saw the newest book by Jim Butcher - a steampunk adventure - that I actually took the time to look him up. I spoke to a few folks about the Dresden series and decided to give the first one a shot. And I'm happy I did. I truly enjoyed the magical aspects of the story and the mystery was pretty good, too. The secondary characters were interesting, although not very fleshed out, and while I didn't like everything about Harry, I found him a believable protagonist with an interesting backstory. I'm already on the waiting list with my local library for the second audio book. Reread 2020: Reading the two new Dresden Files books this year inspired a series reread! And who better to read them to me than Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer? I’m undecided if I’m totally going for it with this series reread, but I’m on board for a few more books to decide. That’s how long it took me to commit to the series years ago. For the most part, going by my hazy memory of the first time I read it, I liked book 1 more the second time around. I didn’t like how some of the ladies and Harry’s interactions/reactions to them were written. My husband thinks some of the sex pot stuff is in keeping with a noir mystery vibe Butcher was maybe going for. I don’t know. What I do know is I love Harry, I love Butcher, and I love his books (including other series), but there are still moments I intensely dislike, and they usually have something to do with how a female character is being described—especially lately, if it’s Molly or Lara. It’s interesting, and probably worthy of more thought and discussion, that the woman he ends up with is not described (not ever, to my recollection) in a lustful, slobbering kind of way. Anywayyyy, James Marsters has a great voice for Harry—maybe less so for some of the other characters—but I think he’s a good reader, and I’ll likely continue the reread on audio.
Storm Front's premise is pretty slim.. But Butcher makes it work, through a combination of interesting characters, tight plotting, and fresh, breezy writing. This is definitely not deep reading, but it is a whole lot of fun. Contingut aTé l'adaptacióAbreujat a

I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained! Harry Dresden was just what I needed as relief from some very sad books I've read recently. [a:Jim Butcher|10746|Jim Butcher|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1400640324p2/10746.jpg]'s writing is excellent, and I loved the humorous asides and cultural references scattered throughout. I've made a paper list of the books in the series so I can check them off when I read them, and I've already borrowed book #2, [b:Fool Moon|91477|Fool Moon (The Dresden Files, #2)|Jim Butcher|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1507307616l/91477._SY75_.jpg|855288].
