I really enjoyed this book. I think the friendship between the two main characters shows the audience how friends can help us when we are having a hard time or feeling sad. The book also teaches young readers how to communicate their feelings with others. ( )

In this humorous book by Mo Willems, Elephant is sad. Piggie, being his friend, tries multiple things to cheer him up, but will elephant ever cheer up? Piggie does not give up trying to make him happy. Friendship and being there for your friends even when they are sad is a great lesson learned from this story.

I have read many of the Elephant and Piggie books and they are all very entertaining, hilarious, and educational. Elephant and PIggie: My Friend is Sad is about how PIggie tries to cheer up sad Gerald. Like the other Elephant and Piggie books, this one also has minimal words, but so much is told through the minimal dialogue and action packed illustrations. This book can help teach children about feelings of sadness and friendship. This book would be great for young toddlers through Kindergarten.
