I really like this simple story of a boy and his dog, who wander off and get "lost" as they spend their day together. I would give it five stars except for the use of Eskimo to describe the boy and his family. I recognize that older books will have this term, but this was published in 2001, certainly by then Eskimo was not the preferred description for First Nations folks who live in the Arctic. ( ) With this sequel to Nutik, the Wolf Pup, it shows Amaroq and Nutik playing. One major difference from the first book to this one is that with this book, there are more animal behavioral actions - which I love about the author. There is much to learn from the natural observations of the book as well as observing Nutik. Amaroq is an Eskimo boy. Along with Nutik, wolf pup and his best friend, the two embark on a journey. Amaroq goes with Nutik wondering the entire time what exactly he wants. Each time they stop along the way Amaroq asks Nutik if that is what he wants. After several attempts to figure it out, Amaroq realizes they have traveled too far from home and are lost. Then the pair come upon an old barrel with holes rusted in it. The barrel has Nutik’s full attention and Amaroq is afraid that there might be an animal inside, but when he reaches in, he finds the football. Nutik’s nose has led them to the lost ball. Amaroq and Nutik play football for a while and then Nutik uses his powerful nose to lead them home. The story idea is great, but I question whether it will keep young reader’s attention. The progression is slow and it may be difficult to keep the reader’s interest. I think the assignment for this book could include a discussion about what a friend is and what it takes to be a good friend. Sense ressenyes | afegeix-hi una ressenya
