The first in a series that my 8yr old daughter adores, full of little projects, how to do things, cooking, beauty tips, friendship tips etc. Some people will complain that it's reinforcing traditional stereotypes, but they're taking it too seriously. We all need to learn to cook, sewing etc is a very useful skill. The light-hearted approach to the other topics is all about looking at things in a positive yet fun way. The following volumes in the series all follow the same pattern. There is a corresponding series for boys, plus loads of other novelty spin-offs for grown-ups which appear a bit silly - keep the format for the kids I say. My six year old daughter simply loves this book. We bought the whole series (mom, dad, boy, girl, but haven't found the family one yet) and I've found all of them cute. They do attempt to engage a wide variety of ages. Personally I bought them for bathroom reading and I think its a perfect spot for these books! Light, cute, and kind of interesting! It's a great book for middle grade readers. It's something unique to pick up.
