great comic on a perspective we dont see often (the civilian side of living in a crazy city known for having a guy run around with a bat costume), with a pretty current take on the police for its time. a few issues falter (e.g. the catwoman and josie stuff) but overall its pretty darn good. this could make a great show. ( )

This.. is a masterpiece of storytelling. You get to feel and care so much for these characters, and none of them are safe! You get to truly fear the megacriminals like Joker(face it, he's a joke in the batman books, the only goal of reading a Batman story with Joker is to see how many thousands he kills and how Batman will stop him this time, but you never truly care. But here, he's scary like hell in the one story where he appear) And you get to get annoyed that Gotham needs the Batman, just like the cops are annoyed to have to use the bat signal. A masterpiece I tell you! I hope one day Mr Rucka and Brubaker gets to come back and do a second pass. Doubtful, but it would be so great. ( )
