Planet Explorers Hawaii: A Travel Guide for Kids by Laura Schaefer is a short but well-illustrated guidebook to Hawaii aimed at middle school readers. Planet explorers Hawaii starts with a very short history (and I mean short!) and then pops from attraction to attraction with tips & facts, gorgeous photographs and links to more information. There are helpful hints such as “Have a plan for if you get separated from your grown-ups”. There is even a (very!) short fun quiz at the end.
This e-book was left me a couple of strong impressions. Primarily, I now want to go to Hawaii! However, as there was no map, I did not ever get a good feel for where all these cool places were or where they were in relationship to each other. The copy I had was in PDF format, which did not read easily on a Kindle Fire. It is a readable introduction to a photogenic state. ( )

This is an easy-to-read book full of fun and interesting facts about Hawaii. The many beautiful pictures will make anyone eager to visit. The lay-out and format of the book will appeal to kids and adults alike. I teach children with learning disabilities, and even my students would be able to read it. The book ends with a quiz as well as travel tips for a vacation to the islands. ( )

My bags are packed! I'm not a "kid" but very much enjoyed the Planet Explorers Hawaii Travel Guide for Kids. With the beautiful, colorful photos, fun "did you know" facts, practical tips (where to get the best shave ice and ice cream) and "whats cool about it" detail for each featured attraction I can't decide where to visit first.

Some of my favorite parts: the photos of the 422 foot waterfall (wow!) in Akaka Falls State Park and the amazing rain forest on the Road to Hana, the facts about the humpback whale, and for some reason the Dole Plantation. And I didn't know that one of our presidents was born in Hawaii! I took the quiz at the end and was surprised how well I did.

The format of each page is very colorful and engaging. There are plenty of links to take you to more in depth information should you desire. ..although I had a PDF version and the links weren't live :(

I'm ready to "lace up my hiking boots and grab my snorkel" (and this book). I hope Hawaii will be waiting and I'm sure I'll have fun! You will enjoy reading this book, no matter what age you are.
